Jose Luis Cárcel works as Digital Transformation Engineer at Fundación Valenciaport, the R&D innovation center of the Port of Valencia. At Fundación, José Luis is involved in multiple projects related to the study and development of disruptive technologies like 5G or the Internet of Things and its application to the maritime and logistics ecosystem.
After receiving the MSc degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Universitat Politecnica de Valencia (UPV), José Luis worked as 5G Research Engineer at Universitat Politecnica de Valencia and Samsung Electronics Research & Development Institute UK. His research background includes the study and design of 5G NR physical layer mechanisms for enabling PTM (Point-to-Multipoint) communications. Additionally, José Luis was an active contributor to the 5G IA Independent Evaluation Group for the evaluation of 5G technology, as part of the IMT-2020 Evaluation Process carried out by the International Telecommunications Union. Recently, he received the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society 2020 Scott Helt Award for its research on the Physical Layer Performance Evaluation of LTE-Advanced Pro Broadcast.
